Obituary

Claude "Pepper" Snodgrass

January 13, 1940-February 12, 2018

Claude Matthew ("Pepper") Snodgrass, 78, of San Antonio, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018. Pepper, as he was known to everyone, was born on January 13, 1940, in Austin, and spent much of his childhood in Wimberley, living on Old Kyle Road, on Wimberley Square. A precocious child, Pepper's increasingly debilitating medical issues led his family to move from Wimberley to Manor and then to Tyler in an effort to provide for his needs.

As an adult, Pepper resided in communities such as San Marcos and Austin, where he worked as a janitor at the Capitol building.

In recent years, as a resident of Paramount Senior Care Center and Meridian Care in San Antonio, he enjoyed attending worship services on Sundays, avidly reading about Texas history, and taking occasional road trips with his nephew Karl, where they would always have lunch at the Wimberley Café, explore the Cypress Creek area, and drive along the Devil's Backbone.

Pepper was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah Robert Erroll Snodgrass and Margaret Bernice ("Bedie") Snodgrass, his brother Norwood Snodgrass, and his late wife, Erna Hardin. He is survived by his sister, Irene (Snodgrass) Rahder, of Naperville, IL; his nieces Lia Guerra, of Naperville, IL, and Lisa Rahder of Chicago, IL; and nephews David Snodgrass, of Dallas, Karl Rahder, of Naperville, IL, and Max Rahder, of Madison, WI.

No formal services are planned, but Pepper's ashes will be spread in the Hill Country, where he spent his happiest years.
